Sea City postcard from BSC Chain Letter

Postcard from Sea City

Sea City, New Jersey is a fictional oceanside town where the Pike Family and other various families from Stoneybrook spend time during the summer. Byron Pike describes the land juts out into the ocean similar to a dog tail. Dee Pike mentions that it's a medium sized town in Boy-Crazy Stacey.

Location[]

Sea City is reached via causeway. The first landmark on the way to Sea City is a billboard of a purple cow. The second landmark is Crabs for Grabs, a roadside restaurant. It's the garden state parkway not the New Jersy Turnpike.

The next town over is Jamesport. Also nearby is historic Smithtown, which looks like its from the 1700s.

Atlantic City isn't too far.

General[]

Lifeguards are only on duty from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. so the Pike kids are only allowed to go in the ocean during that time period. Sea City has many tourist attractions, including plastic palm trees along the main street. The boardwalk includes an amusement park, a movie theater, several stores and restaurants.

One summer, Hurricane Bill hit the area while the BSC (along with the Pike and Barrett families) were on vacation. Everyone huddled at the elementary school and survived in Sea City, Here We Come!.

The Pike family has been renting a large Victorian house on the beach for two weeks every summer for the past nine years. The Pikes' house is Victorian style, a big gingerbread cottage with yellow-and-white trim. There are gables and eaves and posts everywhere. There are three floors, the house faces the ocean. The address is 12 Sandpiper Lane. They often ask members of The Baby-Sitters Club to serve as mothers helpers. The only book where they were scheduled to go but couldn't was in Abby in Wonderland.

The Engle Family goes to visit Sea City for two weeks in Karen's Mermaid. They rented a house two houses down from the Pikes.' Their house is ranch style and right on the beach. There is a Fun in the Sun Festival hosted that's new. There's food, contests, entertainment, and shopping. There's a parade with a special mermaid float that Margo and Karen sit on it as little mermaids.
